Protecting our future begins with protecting our children.
Guns and gun violence are so much a part of our young peoples' lives that their attitudes toward them seem almost casual. Nearly every teen knows someone who carries a gun, and kids can seem virtually blasé about it. But under the surface of bravado, behind the stoic faces of these children, you can hear the fear and sorrow in their voices - fear for family and friends and sorrow for the murder victim almost every one has known.
How can any young person focus on fulfilling his or her full potential, when forced to deal with the daily, unnerving reality of violence in our neighborhoods and schools, in cities and town throughout Pennsylvania? It is an unspeakable tragedy that our children are growing up in this culture of guns and violence.
To protect the future of Pennsylvania, and the future of our children, we must stand up and be heard. We must demand that our legislators adopt laws that will protect our children. And we must be willing to speak out, and speak often—to our friends and family, and especially our kids, to be a force for change and to protect our future.
